Mountmellick Embroidery Workshop
Always wanted to try embroidery? This one-day workshop offers an introduction to traditional whitework embroidery, ideal for beginners!
Get hands-on with the basic stitches used for naturalistic floral motifs, popular in the mid-late 1800s to decorate household furnishings. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll learn how to mark a pattern on cloth, and basic stitches of this type of traditional embroidery.
The patterns used during the workshop are inspired by original objects from the Ulster Folk Museum’s textile collections, giving you a chance to connect to historic Ulster craft traditions.
This is the next in a series of stitching workshops based on the Ulster Folk Museum’s collection of white work embroidery. The workshop is provided with support from the Worshipful Company of Broderers
