Always wanted to try embroidery? This one-day workshop offers an introduction to traditional whitework embroidery, ideal for beginners!
Start by exploring the history of whitework embroidery in Ulster, before getting hands-on with the key stitches used in flowering embroidery. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll learn how to use an embroidery hoop, trace and mark a design, and sew four of the main stitches used in traditional whitework.
The patterns used during the workshop are inspired by original objects from the Ulster Folk Museum’s textile collections, giving you a chance to connect to historic Ulster craft traditions.
This is the first in a series of stitching workshops based on the Ulster Folk Museum’s collection of white work embroidery.
