How to find us

From Belfast:

Take the 502a or the 502b Ulsterbus from Laganside Buscentre or Lanyon Place in Belfast City Centre, towards Cultra, Ulster Folk Museum. There is no bus from the new Grand Central Station. Disembark at Ulster Folk Museum/Ulster Transport Museum and from there the museum is a 10-minute walk. Please follow the signposts along the full accessible route. Please note the walk is uphill.

From outside Belfast:

If you are travelling from outside of Belfast, please refer to Ulsterbus timetables on Translink's website to plan your journey.

If you’re travelling to us by train, you need to get on the Bangor line from Grand Central or Lanyon Place main stations and disembark at Cultra station. You will come across the Transport Museum first when you arrive, and it’s a 15-minute walk from there to the Folk Museum. Please note the walk is uphill; this is steep in parts.

From Belfast City Centre, take the A2 towards City Airport/Bangor/Holywood, then keep left onto the Sydenham By-Pass A2. Follow the A2 for 3.7 miles until you reach the museum on your left-hand side, just past the Culloden Hotel.

Parking is free and available for all visitors. Overflow parking is available in our lower car park as well.  Please note the walk is uphill; this is steep in parts.

We currently do not have any e-charging stations for electric cars (EV) in the Folk Museum car parks. However, there are two charging stations down at the Ulster Transport Museum.

Currently, we don't have any bike racks on-site or an area to park bikes.

Did you know? Our sister museum beside us - Ulster Transport Museum - has gated access to the North Down Coastal Path. It is free to access the grounds of the Transport Museum by foot or bike and you can make your way to the Ulster Folk Museum this way. The gate opens and closes in line with museum opening hours. Visit ulstertransportmuseum.org for opening hours.

Please note: the Ulster Transport Museum and Ulster Folk Museum now operate separately and a combined (dual) ticket is no longer available. Admission must be purchased separately for each museum.
